Years ago I spent quite some time programming various reverbs on
dsp (using IRCAM Max); getting a reverb that way is somehow "easy",
but getting a reverb that doesn't sound artificial nor metallic is really
really difficult... I for one never managed to do it, and relied on
algorithms (actually ready-made patches) developped by others after
months (if not years) of work... It's easy to understand why most
sophisticated reverb algorithms are proprietary...
