Also try using a photo-resistor instead of the pot. Then the amount of light controls the voltage.
That was my first DIY project (thanks for the encouragement bbob!)

Hi,
I'm new to all this. In my inexperience, I envision something like the
following:
a 9 volt battery attached to some resistors(?) to take down the
voltage attached to a potentiometer attached to a CV input.
Would something like this work?
The end goal would be to use similar analog outputs from a
micro-controller to the CV input.
All advice and education appreciated.
