Thanks Anders (hope you don't mind that I'm including this to the whole
list)
Turns out -- Alps don't seem to still make the joysticks I mentioned
But they do do the ones in the first pic of the pdf I linked.
- these are available at various places.
Including Conrad - where they also have the special knobs for them (kind
of like playstation controls)
They're not the same thing exactly as I'd been looking for, but may
well be useful.
- one thing is that they're spring loaded - I had some similar
mini-joysticks and you *could* remove the internal spring, but it made
the whole arrangement a bit 'floppy'
