The idea is that 60Hz hum will cancel in the wires. Even if they are not
twisted, there should be some cancellation. In practice... I see a little
improvement in the hum level... which is very low anyway in my setup because
I have AC cords on the floor and Audio on the ceiling, with MIDI on the walls
(OK its a low ceiling... :^).
If you have a crappy setup, it might be a little more quiet. The real
advantage is that all the power comes from one drdicated source, with its own
earth ground... and when its turned off both sides of the line are switched
off... good protection against a lightning surge...
I made my own for about $200 for the shielded toroidal transformer. I would
not pay more. In fact I might not do it again at that price...
