I've found the same thing. I turn pots 90 degrees to the right,  
(looking at the front panel) and bend back the PCB mount pins so  
they're perpendicular to the front panel. The set screw then bites  
exactly into the slot between the 2 halves of the shaft. It gives a  
very secure fitting.
