[sdiy] low noise opamp for audio circuitry?

Sitting here testing a preamp circuit (so i can plug guitar and vocal into my modular).FIRST i was using a TL074. when i listened to the output, and turned up my speakers, I heard a distinct hissing. (even with input turned down.)

i WAS testing on +/- 9v battery for safety reasons. maybe the 74 doesnt like 9v.

Then i tried an LF444 and all 95% of the hiss went away.

But i have a feeling i can do better still.

SO---what are some good, low noise opamps (in a 4 way package?)
