[sdiy] Alpha pots group buy

As an aside, a company called CTS makes 24 mm pots under the title "stock
pots" and you can pick any shaft length or style. Indeed, the good folks at
Digikey actually stick the shafts you request into the pot bodies before
shipping them. Unfortunately, they are somewhat more expensive than Alpha
pots, and although CTS makes every possible combination, Digikey only
carries linear pots up to 500K.

I can find no other supplier for these pots other than "10,000 min" type
distributors, and even they only stock very limited selections. It makes me
wonder how some of these companies actually sell their products! In my
estimation, the major drawback of this whole DIY experience is the extreme
difficulty in sourcing parts.

Ahh -- yes, it is confusing!

I sometimes envisage the Futurlec workers scrabbling around a big, messy
room to get orders together -- usually if you order 100 ICs you'll get
maybe between two and five different makes/manufacturers!

Pots, too, are often a mix of the Short (10mm) and Shorter (7mm)
Both of which, though, are shorter than those from Rapid! (long! and
annoying...)

Yikes!
