FWIW, a couple of years back, I had to go to the accident and emergency 
bit of the local hospital, when a piece of hot solder flew up and stuck 
to one of my eyes.
It hurt like hell, but luckily I'd worked as the audio/video guy in an 
eye team (Project Orbis) back in '92, so I wasn't *too* worried, but 
wasn't about to take any chances.....
The front surface of the eye recovers relatively quickly, but if 
penetrated, then you are in trouble......

I've got some protective goggles next to the workbench for when things 
might be flying around.....

Wearing glasses would probably be a good thing. Luckily, I don't need 
them yet. It's just my ears that are crap - which is a bit of a bummer, 
because I'm a sound engineer by trade.....  :-)
