Its a fast fan in a small plastic box so its pretty noisy. I can't hear 
anyone speak in the room when mine is on and I'm working near it. I only 
keep it on when I'm soldering and the moment I stop I turn it off.

I don't use it with old fashioned rosin solder, only for the new 
no-clean and water washable stuff.

The big fan ones we had at work were apparently quieter, but then they 
may have just been drowned out by the insertion machines, conveyors and 
the arklone baths. Ah, the good old days... :-)
