Myself, I've only just caught up with it. It reminded me rather of a
discussion we had here with Paul Maddox, talking about trying to get
together some generalised digital audio hardware for designing synths
on. The Chameleon is one example, but we still need a new one.

Still, I find myself rather underwhelmed. It's just a PC in a rack
box really, isn't it? And "designing a synth" for such a unit would
actually be sitting down to write a lot of software. In my world,
synths *have* software, but synths are not *just* software.
Even something like John Bowen's Solaris (http://www.johnbowen.com/
solaris.html) still seems much more like a "real synth", even if it's
all DSPs on the inside, and the interface is pretty much just general
purpose LCDs and rotaries.

Sigh.
