[sdiy] Envelope followers

I'm wondering if anyone has a favorite envelope follower circuit they could 
recommend. It really only needs to process drums and I don't need a gate or 
trigger output since it will be used in a desktop filter box. I really like 
the sound of the envelope follower in the Roland sh-2 considering there is 
no control over the shape at all. See this video for an example:

So before I go ahead and make a breadboard version of the sh-2 circuit is 
there another design I should look at?
