[sdiy] OT Making transfer letters

This is off topic a bit but I'm sure someone here can help me.

I'm restoring an early 70's Marantz receiver and the legend for the 
power switch is mostly rubbed off.  I've been able to reproduce 
pretty closely the size and shape of the letters in Word.  What I'm 
trying to figure out is how to make transfer letters from this.  I've 
searched the web looking for transfer letters in a similar font and 
can find none.  I seem to remember a site that talked about making 
decals from laser prints.  I think it was something like coating the 
top surface in lacquer and then dissolving the paper off the back to 
make a decal.  Any help?
