[sdiy] good modular kit for a noob?

I'll echo Sam's comments. I, too built the PAiA 9700 and share similar
views. The Blacet kits are excellent. I'm still in the middle of building
the ones I purchased and have found them to be of very high quality and
relatively easy to build. John also has a pretty broad selection.

It also never hurts to ask a module supplier if they would sell you a "kit"
I got a couple of modules this way, too. I think most don't offer kits
because many of the pre-built modules (at least the ones I have) make heavy
use of surface mount devices and don't lend themselves well to the "casual"
kit builder.

I can also recommend pre-built modules like the Synthasonic 8 stage phaser
which I bought (shameless plug for you Sam :) ).

Here are some good links for "kits"

Hi Jason,

I've built the Paia 9700 and many of the Blacet kits. I'd say that the
Paia is an excellent first modular project if you don't have a lot of
experience soldering or identifying parts. The major downside is that
