Well I'm not sure this is completely true.  There's a significant 
audible different between a compressor set with an attack time of 0.1ms 
vs 1ms.  Perhaps this is more noticeable since the sound starts loud and 
gets quietened during the attack phase.

Sounds to me like the way to go.
