Now I think about it, I remember that the few times I have had transistors
mysteriously go wild at high frequencies - like 80KHz - a tiny ferrite ring
on one leg, fixes things up.
It's only very rare that has happened, though.
And I certainly agree that if the grounding isn't right, then no amount of
bypassing will fix things. (yeah, I've tried!)
