If you want something in an external box, there's a variety of options
from TC Helicon. I use a Voice One which can exactly do what you
describe above: Delay a voice and pitch and shape it to generate a
second line that can go from "nice and clean" to downright ugly,
robotic, and wrong... There's nothing analog behind the ADC/DAC stages,
though, so it might not appeal to purists here... ;-)
