Hi Alfred - 

PNP substitutes for the AD821? For crucial applications these days
people tend to use either MAT03, SSM2220, or THAT320. For
not-as-crucial matching, maybe 2SA1349 or 2SA798.

If you're talking about "ENS-76 VCF Option 1" then the matched PNP pair
form a basic exponential converter. Bernie even says that if pitch
accuracy is not a concern, that two 2N3906s will do. I'd use a 2SA1349.
