[sdiy] String Filter PCBs - Filterbank part - taking pre-orders now

Hi,

I've been asked to make PCBs for my String Filter, and now I've redesigned
the whole thing to make such a project possible.

Even though this project is somehow related to the Moog String Filter, it's
not a copy, but developed separately, albeit AFAIK going back to similar
sources. My main sources are:
Ian Fritz, "Filter Bank Design", Electronotes EN#107,
Bernie Hutchins, "A 39-Channel Variable Q Filter Bank", EN#115,
Arthur Benade, "Fundamentals of Musical Acoustics" 2nd edition 1990.
The filter choice for the 40 BPFs (State Variable with Deboo-Integrator) is
my own.

You can read all about it on my web site
http://www.jhaible.heim.at/string_filter/jh_string_filter.html , which also
shows some intimidating photos of the old version. :)
The new version will consist of only 2 boards (or 3, depending on what you
need).

Board 1 + Board 2 contain the whole 40-band filterbank part and the power
supply (less mains transformer and fuses), with voltage controlled resonance
and an opto-electronic limiter.
You can create sounds like this with Board 1 + 2:
http://jhaible.heim.at/string_filter/jh_string_filter_resonance_ob8.mp3
(OB-8, first dry, then filter bank switched in, then resonance increased.
Demo is from old version.)
http://electro-music.com/forum/phpbb-files/half_of_jh_string_filter_20band_113.mp3
(That's something with Board 1 only - 20 Bands)

And then, with some extra equalization, you can turn a synthesizer sound
into a string-like sound like this:
http://jhaible.heim.at/string_filter/jh_string_filter_benadecello_cs50.mp3
(CS-50 dry first, then thru filter bank and Cello EQ)

The extra equalisation will be available later, on a separate board (Board
3).

I'll keep this separate, because I expect more interest in Board 1 and 2
than in Board 3, so maybe I'll combine Board 3 with something else, like a
vocal filter (VP330 human voice maybe - this will be decided later.)

I think it's also possible to do the extra equalization with outboard
equipment (parametric equalizers) - the filter bank is the tricky part, and
that's what you buy with Board 1 and Board 2.

Right now, I'm taking pre-orders for Board 1 and Board 2 only.
I'll wait a couple of weeks before I put my order to the PCB house. It will
probably take a couple of months before the PCBs are ready for shipping. But
I need binding pre-orders now, to calculate if the project makes sense at
all. You don't have to pay anything now - I'll only send invoices when I
actually have the boards ready for shipping.

I'm only selling the printed circuit boards (PCBs) for this. You have to buy
all the necessary components yourself.
I'll provide information how I've built my own string filter, using these
PCBs (schematics, component overlay, BOM, etc.).
And I'll answer questions about it in this forum:
http://electro-music.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20360

(I've you've sent me a mail before, showing interest in this project, please
send an official order mail as described below, nevertheless.)

If you're interested, please send the following order form including the
email subject line (important!), with the quantity you want filled in:
(just copy and paste the text, and fill in your personal data.)

=================================================================================

Email subjet line: "String Filter PCB order [n] sets of boards"

=================================================================================

Email text:

I'm ordering [n] sets of 2 PCBs for Board 1 and Board 2 of the JH String
Filter project (the 40-band filterbank part)

for EUR 54.00 per set of boards,

plus EUR 8.00 for shipping and handling per order.

My adress is:

[Full shipping adress, as it will appear on the envelope for sending you the

PCBs]

My paypal adress is:

Looking forward to hear from you,

and don't forget the email subject line with the number of PCB *sets* (1 Set

= 2 boards = EUR 54.00)
