I sent this to the AH list, just wanted to post it here too.

I removed one of the slider pots,opened it up and
found that the wiper contacts had corroded right off! I took some
resistor leads and soldered one onto each side. I did this to all the
sliders that weren't working, and now the sh-1 is working correctly.

Instead of checking the most direct parts like the sliders, I spent a
lot of time looking for spare parts like transistors. I thought one of
those went bad. This was a good troubleshooting experience.

If anyone would like to see some pics of how I repaired the sliders,
let me know and I will email them to you.
