Yes, I was thinking about this one. definitely easier and more
reliable to design than on a uC. I toyed a bit with the uC
implementation, using a 512 word buffer to make a "fast" version of
the buffer. But still, at 20 instructions in between each bit toggling
in the best case, you're quite living on the hard side. Maybe if you
have a PLL inside the uC, like the dspics, you can get a bit more
power and still track the frequency accurately, but the CPLD one is
definitely easier.
