Maybe something like:
Passive compensation is not perfect. Getting closer is nice. Getting
close enough is great, because then it's good enough to out-weight
other system non-linearities as source of the error.

Yes. Still - "Why it works" is based on some silly law and math
involved isn't anything we haven't learnt from the elementary school.
