[sdiy] Male connectors for Analogue Systems on a Doepfer bus?

I disagree, they're a weak connector and shouldn't be used in that
capacity. I've worked on stuff over the years that used dip headers as
connectors and they are a common failure point even for stuff that
isn't intended to be unplugged. They were quite common as I/O plugs on
early computer system where they were used to connect the I/O board to
the back panel DB25 etc. Nobody used them for very long though and
with good reason.I think that they are worse than ordinary chip legs
as any movement of the cable inside the unit causes stress. I've never
seen chips just fall out when you touch them like can happen with
those cables. They also break easily and it's a common practice to put
a regular socket on them so that you break the socket rather than the
cable pins.
Besides, moving modules around is a monthly activity for some :)
Why would anyone use those cables in the first place when idc headers
have been available for ages? Although I prefer the tougher molex
connectors for power I can see the need to have a more sophisticated
bus in a modular but I can't imagine why anyone would choose to go
with dip headers?
Dip headers are best reserved for when you actually need to plug
something into what would normally be an IC socket, such as rom/mpu
emulators, daughterboards, etc.
