[sdiy] TR-808 woes

Standard debugging procedures will get you a lot closer to knowing what
the fault is. If you have a scope or some meters.. Check the output side
of the psu and make sure you're getting the proper voltages, check to make
sure the cpu is alive, basically do some forensics until you've narrowed
the problem down to an area or smaller data set. People on this list
could likely help at that point. The roland x0x boxes often stop
sequencing because the clock isn't flowing.

Can you switch banks or fill patterns and get the lights to follow the
switch?

Anyway, I was just looking at a friends the other day which was/is in a
similar state. It had a lot of mods done to it making it more difficult
to analyze the fault, but eventually (and this may not be the end of the
problem) it was discovered the din sync plug had loose wires... in the
case of his mods, this would likely prevent clock from being passed (MIDI
clock input mods and what not).

Anyway the point of telling this is that simple things like dead switches,
grounds, power, broken connections, failed switching jacks and similar
need to be completely ruled out first.
