Speaking entirely for myself, it was Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the  
Moon" that did it for me. It might not have been a contemporary  
album, but after I heard "On the run" I was hooked on synthetic sound.

I hated most of the Eighties synth-pop that was about when I was a  
teenager.
