You might think of amplification as a simple approach to multiplication, 
with division being multiplication by something less than 1.

If you use an opamp in non-inverting configuration, the feedback 
resistor controls the gain (multiplier). If you have a wave controlling 
the feedback "resistor" value by proxy via voltage controlled 
resistance, you get multiplication.

Or I think so anyway. <g>

You should have a look at generic examples of opamp circuits, as well as 
the examples in the LM13700 datasheet; they're very informative.
