Ah, I see.

The previous one didn't have any particular overdrive problem, either.
If there was anything like that in the samples, it's been the quick and 
dirty recording setup.
For old and new version:
Without the Vactrol installed, it clips like any opamp circuit does.
With the Vactrol, it gradually goes "dirty" instead of clipping.
This is mostly an issue if you increase resonance up to self-oscillation; 
not so for ordinary operation.
