Grab a copy of the Microchip dsPIC DSP library from their website. 
They've got code in there for FIR and IIR filters that you can study and 
adapt for your own use. I wouldn't try to use the libraries unmodified 
thought - the C language linkages and interface standards make them very 
general but also pretty inefficient in specific cases. Stripping the 
routines down to the essentials and weaving them into your own code will 
get the most out of the processor.
