what i do is to use the MTA-100 packages for this purposes. you can just
copy these packages into the library you want to use (i.e. the pot
library) and the add these packages to your preferred devices...
this won't work for panel mounted components like resistors, which are
supposed to be mounted to other panel mounted components only (no direct
connection to the circuitry on PCB).
