FW: [sdiy] More Synth DIYUK videos

I'm not sure I agree with the comment that the ETI can only have one pin
per line, there is obviously no problem in using one output (row) to
drive multiple inputs (columns); I have also used patches where a couple
of outputs are driving a single input, shorting the outputs together.
This may seem a bit dodgy but works, the outputs are pretty resilient.
The design of the synth very rarely requires it though as there are five
mixers, all DC coupled.
The EMS Synthi uses resistive pins to create "mixers" on the patchpanel,
both concepts have their advantages (as do "spider's web" patch leads)
in my mind.
I think the main disadvantage to matrix panels is the finite number of
I/O points, obviously a patchlead system could go on forever ...

Remeber the ETI pannel is not as the synthi ones. The eti has simple
shorting pins, with no resistance, which resticts the number
of pins on each line to supposedly one, but im sure you could get away
with more.

(who actaully has an ETI 4600 lurking somewhere)
