Really interesting discussion!
I was at a free jazz/improv concert recently in quite a reverberant
space and the saxophonist (Evan Parker solo) was no doubt responding to
the acoustics and "playing" the space. However, I remember the sound I
heard at a certain point was distinctly like ring modulation (sum and
difference) and it sounded like they were not in the space, but in my head!
Is this an example of non-linear mixing in the ear? Also, I've heard the
term "the Third Ear" before but had no luck googling it. Is this also
the same phenomena?
