I believe if you read through electronotes or the archives of the sdiy list
you'll find that the optimum tempco for our normal synth use is around 3350
or so. Some designs settle for a sub-optimal value simply because thats
what is available. If the you use a tempco thats a little high ( 3500 ) its
fairly easy to adjust it down a bit. Ian Fritz has a great talk about this
on his sawtooth vco page.
