Hello,
it started when I was 14 years old (umm... 1973) with a birthday
present: a kosmos experimental kit. One experiment built a tunable
multivibrator. I found that it anoying to set the tuning with a
potentiometer. Occasionally I had stumbled over a resistance wire (I
think from a heater), and I used it in the kind of a ribbon controller
for that multivibrator.
I thought I hav invented a new instrument, but had to findout that Mr
Trautwein was faster than me. So I went on exploring and found that I
can record the multivibrators out to my ITT-cassette deck, play it back
and play a second voice on the resistance wire...
That was the moment when my parents decided that I will get a headphone
though my birthday was two months ago.
With 15 I had my first job where I earned 900 Deutschmarks with in one
months: I bought a used Yamaha YC-30 one week later the guy from the
music shop told me, he will no longer do Yamaha repairs, and he would
give me the service manual of the YC-30.... and from here I think it is
the same story as of anybody else here ;-)

I'm doing an informative speech on SDIY for my public speaking class and I'd like to have some testimonials about how other people besides myself got started in SDIY. I'm not looking for anything lengthy or profound, just one or two sentences about what got you into this awesome hobby/addiction.
