[sdiy] [OT] How did you start?

As a precursor, these two things laid the groundwork:
1. i was an electronics tinkerer as a very young kid and
2. my dad's night job was a drummer in some bands for years)

After that, these two things initiated my DIY Synth start in the 70's:

1. i used to fix radios as a kid to make money. i'd take my time fixing the
nice ones. i repaired a good dx model and listened one night to a far away
station playing what i later learned was Chick Corea bending on that
MiniMoog pitch bend wheel playing fusion ... then Rick Wakeman doing his
thing ....
:-) what can i say - youngsters are impressionable ... :-)
2. when I was young, I showed my mom a picture a picture of the VERY early
PAIA synth - you know - the one with the typewriter keys for a keyboard.
I told her I wanted one of those. She said "that likely won't happen, but
knowing you, I bet you can make something just as good"
Moms ALWAYS know just what to say.
Little did she know ...

Thanks for asking, brings back good memories ...

Michael
