[sdiy] quick (i hope) eagle question

Im still new to eagel, and realise that the copy and paste functions are a little odd, however -

I open a schematic
I use the 'group' command to select a load of objects on the schematic (they change colour when selected)
I choose 'cut' 
I choose 'paste' 

and i get "past buffer is empty"

hmm...

Ive looked about and i thought this was the correct procedure, but its not working for me.  Any ideas what im doing wrong?
