[sdiy] Thinking Modular

Here's my 8c:

Start building without front panels. use shoe boxes etc. This will
make it much cheaper for you to figure out what you want. Then you can
see which of the modules are the best for you and get front panels,
nice knobs, and other stuff for them.

You can re-use jack sockets if you initally put several of them on
cables that go to pcb-mounted pin headers. Then you can use some very
good neutriks and have em connect to the PCB.
Watch out as such a connection scheme could do bad when you're trying
to do FM operations etc... generally the high-frequency performance is
not that great there.

But don't go cheap on the components, cables and the PSU - that will
change the sound (sometimes very substantially), and you will end up
thinking a module is crap even if it could be your favourite!

Cheers

I've poked around and seen things like the number of VCOs ranging from 3 to 9, for example. I'm a little overwhelmed. Does anyone have any thoughts for me?
