[sdiy] way OT: DOS Commands

Sorry for the off-topic post but I can't seem to locate any computer
geeks lately through other channels.
I haven't had to do any DOS command line stuff for a long time and I
guess I'm rusty.
I need to copy an entire directory tree. In linux it would be something like:
cp -Rf [path] *

So I tried in DOS:

xcopy [path] *.*

For some reason this only got me the first file in the target
directory. What gives?

I'm actually trying to write a batch file.
Any help much appreciated.
