i vaguely remember seeing instruments w/ small, relatively light string assemblies... maybe from practice pianos that used to be used in instructional labs?  maybe aluminum, and amplified?  anyone remember something like that, and have details like manufacturers or brand names?

like others mentioned, i once had the guts from an old upright once, much fun... but too much metal for the space i have now...
