Hello!

I joined this list a few weeks ago in the hopes of learning what I can about circuit stuffing, circuit building, and eventually circuit designing.

My name is Jim Elliott, and I'm a noiz-a-holic. I'm a 30 year old IT professional in Memphis, TN (Programmer, Development Lead, Offshore Lead, etc...). My obsession with electronic music began at the ripe old age of 15, thanks to Bill Leeb, Rhys Fulber, and Chris Peterson - collectively known as Frontline Assembly - thanks a lot guys, my wallet hates you. My obsession with the music turned into an addiction to all things synthesizers, sampling, & production by the age of 26. I'm still an amature by all accounts, thanks to the fact that I have to do work work to pay my bills :( however, I have plenty of fun with the little studio I've put together.

Anyway, Paul Schreiber's lovely "little" kits got me turned onto DIY. Over the year and a half of building his kits (and others), I've started to come up with ideas of my own that I would to expand upon and possibly share with the community. The problem.... well I have no EE experience/knowledge outside of the kits that I have built. Also my math skills are lacking, however I always try to resolve problems, and I'm not stupid :) I'm beginning to understand circuit diagrams (how to read them, at least) and what the the individual components do. Lovely.

Well, what do I expect to gain here?
1) Talk to people who actually share a common interest :)
2) I would like to understand the theory behind operation
3) Integrate best practices / lessons learned into my own designs (if/when I finally get to work on them) - why reinvent the wheel if I don't have to?
4) Hear differing perspectives....

With all of that being said, here is what you can expect from me.
1) Direct questions requesting specific responses (if asking questions :)
2) Hopefully objective responses to posts asking of other's opinions
3) I try to stay on topic. I understand that everybody has their own interests, as evidenced by the fact that there are a gazillion different mailing lists/groups/forums etc. Why litter a group way-off-topic material? Offlist is a great place for that stuff.
4) I try my best to respond to offlist emails

Take care, and I'm sure you will all hear from me soon (like in a few minutes :)

-Jim
