[sdiy] another synth id? Synth used on certains Wings songs

When I was listening I was thinking to myself, "this is really more how
Moogs sound than EMS..." And of course Mellotrons are easy to pick out. I've
always wanted one of those. I've thought of ways to sort of do it over the
years, using tape loops and several old-school answering machines, but the
ideas never went much past the thought phase.

Then there's the magnetic tape cello that some performers (one was either
Patti Smith or Patty Smyth - I think the former & Tim Kaiser probably did -
you should see his website: www.timkaiser.org...) have used and I can't
figure out why I haven't made one of THESE: a stick to stand up like a cello
or basso with a tape playback head on it and using different bows strung up
with prerecorded sounds of any nature. You could really go wild with that
and use 2 or 3 heads. The bow could have multiple strands of tape and you
could select which one by rotating it. You could angle extra heads so that 2
tapes could be played at once even.
