Ah, sorry!  I think maybe I wasn't quite clear about one detail!  The  
1st Part led and the Basic Variation led do come on, only the led  
state doesn't change when it should (i.e. when variation B is chosen).

Nevertheless, I checked all the connections to/from the PSU board as  
well as reseated all connectors on the main board.  I also tried  
reseating, then removing the Step switch board just to make sure I  
wasn't shorting something with my solder job.
