I like your idea of reusing existing jacks, however I've actually been using the trig outs on mine. I don't mind drilling a few holes in my 606 - it is in excellent condition EXCEPT for the paint on the back. Plus I would like to use normalled jacks to assist with mixing purposes, and the fact that I sometimes use the 606 in travel mode (batteries & headphones :)

There's actually enough sockets already on the TR606 if you don't mind
sacrificing the run/stop, trigger outs & headphone out sockets.
I have mine wired:
Run/Stop - SD
LT trig out - Toms
HT trig out - CY
Headphone - Hats
The main output is still the mix of all but since all the above are
wired pre-volume-pot, with all the pots except BD turned down the main
out becomes the dedicated BD output.

(the extra D-socket is just used for external triggering - there are
spare pins so I guess I could have also used it for audio out but I
added this socket afterwards)
