Also, the sound sensation of ice building up takes only place
when the temperature falls quickly just at dawn so one has to be 
prepared for the right whether conditions to catch these sounds.

Depending on the size of the lake and ice density it has a broad
sound spectrum, i know a large lake which i go to sometimes to hear
sounds like thunder and basket balls rolling.
Boing,Boing,thud,thud and then kaaaaaboooommmm booom boom bom!(8-) 

Sometimes its so loud it can scare the shit out of you, i remeber 
some years ago i was out a bit in the outback here, had walked trough
dense forest up to a spring well based lake i know, it was late very dark,
was standing on the shore and then a tremendous bang and a deep roar
occurred, my spinal cord curled, i thought it was a brown bear behind me,
ready to make me into pieces. :-) hehe!

Ah i forgot, its also in 3D, 8:1 spatial surround to,
perhaps thats why its such a sensation and scary.
