Well.. although passive, one can't assume linearity in an acoustic
instrument.
And, if you consider a stringed instrument(for example) reflected/resonated
forces from the body interact in a complex way with the note generating
slip/stick phenomena.
It would be interesting to know why pianos are strung increasingly high.
As opposed to increasingly flat.
