it may seem as such, but considering it's 2008 and we _still_ don't  
have a Hammond clone whose vibrato/chorus can be universally agreed  
as "totally there" by everyone then i think there's something to the  
whole scanning delay line concept.

solid state scanning of a vintage delay line would probably be pretty  
"there".
