Go for the Ensoniq way: place an open coil under each key, which the key
itself will then "tune", therefore changing the oscillator frequency,
the coil is part of.
Takes some slightly more processing power (which is why Ensoniq used a
dedicated counter chip for that), but not only gives you velocity but
also aftertouch.
The patent should have been expired by now, so even (semi-)commercial
use should be possible without licensing worries.
