The shocking truth is: I didn't even think about this 6dB vs. 12dB thing 
when I built it;
I just wanted it to be as close to the original as possible. (Not that 
difficult in that
particular case, with all the original parts still available.)
Your question took me by surprise, and I actually dug up the old simulation 
and put probes along the slope. :)

In another case, I carefully focused on the slope of a HPF, however:

This was intended to become a MOTM module as well, since 2002.
If it doesn't see the light of day as a MOTM module, it'll be a candidate 
for a PCB project of my own.
