The mean age here seems to be forty-something. I'm 46. My interest in
electronics started when I got a Radio Shack 100-in-1 kit when I was
somewhere around 10 years old. The first and only PCB that I etched
myself was for a Craig Anderton preamp/EQ project in Guitar Player
magazine. I never finished it because I realized that one of the caps
was wrong, set it aside, then got a Strat that I wasn't about to hack up.
My interest in sound mangling started even earlier. We had a little
Emenee reed organ (a kid's toy, just like the Magnus ones) and I'd do
things like hold down keys or chord buttons while switching the unit
on or off -- I was doing stuff like fade-ins and fade-outs. I was
also big on playing records at the wrong speed (intentionally),
especially the 16 RPM speed that was basically half of 33-1/3.
