[sdiy] Blank rack panel/cases

I'm about to start off some modding to my rack PAIA Fatman. My first order
of business is finding a suitable 2u rack panel/tray to hold the
boards and have space for switches, knobs, etc.

I want it to be a single unit with the original Fatman rack panel.
Would it be easier to just get a 4u rack and do all the drilling
myself? (don't have a drill press and would want to avoid that).
What's the best solution for me. Can I attach the two 2u panels
together? I was thinking of a bracket on the adjoining pair of rack
holes between the two....

More questions to come as I begin to tackle the actual mods. I can
follow kit instructions okay, schematics and what not are another
story.... I've never done a full scale mod on a kit before that
involved more than a component swap and such and with explicit
instructions.
