That is very good advice.
When I worked for Dortronics I had built this awesome burn-in station
for their line of hybrid switching supplies. They gave me this giant
box of huge power resistors from the basement - many values and sizes.
I went to town with it.
The finished unit had built-in current metering and 8 relay switched
loads from 1/4 amp up to 4 amps which was the max for their largest
model. Then there were binding strips and test points to ease setting
up all the various performance measurements I had to take. Probe jacks
for the O-scope and the inrush measurement - everything. Wish I had
that thing now.
I hear they still use that thing regularly over there.
Anyway I'm rambling again. I really don't think the gear this PSU is
for actually pulls a full load from it. I'd say they over-designed the
unit and gave it extra headroom. Not to mention the fact that it is
for powering a modular system which depending on initial size and
options installed has a great deal of variability in power
consumption.
