Jack, I would second Tom's suggestion of the Art of Electronics. I was
going to post this but saw Tom had already posted it. I got the first
edition when it first came out from a university book shop. I did get
a later edition as well but that has been lost but I still have my
first edition. There chapters on opamps and oscillators are excellent
ground laying texts - easy to understand without loosing anything,
well anything worth worrying about. I suspect the later additions have
up to date data but I hope nothing has been lost.
Other books have come and gone over the years (including cook books
and single subject ones), what with degrees and work etc, but this one
has stayed
